What's wrong with the world mama?

Is it just me or is the world really negative nowadays? Why are there so many people dissing each other on the internet, or having cyber "fights"? I mean even dude to dude, from what I observe (quite sadly, I'm guilty as wel), we just can't resist putting each other down when the opportunity presents itself.

Okay example 1. A couple of months ago, I decided to upgrade my phone. I'd been using a non camera phone for awhile since I was in the army, and people were always bugging me to get a smart phone, like a blackberry or HTC. I was always satisfied with my small simple "INDESTRUCTABLE" Nokia, but I was tired of being left behind. So after some time, I went smart phone shopping and found one that I really really liked.

Somehow though, every time I went to meet my friends, the moment they laid eyes on my new phone you could sense a shift in the force (like a bunch of predators just waiting to lining up to shoot and scoot). They would attack my phone viciously, saying stuff like "WOAH NOKIA BANKRUPT ALREADY YOU STILL BUY FOR WHAT?" "Ee your phone so heavy and chunky, why you never get Samsung or Iphone?"

I suppose it just never occurred to them that I bought the phone because I liked it? And even if I bought it and later on regretted buying it, shouldn't they respect my decision? Okay, maybe I'm being overly sensitive and all, but I just don't think it's a very nice thing to do. Why can't everyone just be happy for their friends? Like if a friend of yours managed to get a house in say, Jurong West, shouldn't you be happy for them? "Woo! I'm glad that you managed to get a place!", and not "Woah you want to stay there ah? Got so many factories nearby, not smelly meh?"

Example 2, now this kinda conversation is really guy stuff but I'm sure everyone has seen it happen at least ONCE. "Eh, why you never order chilli? PUSSY AH?" Like WTF? Hello, one's tolerance for chilli has nothing to do with his manhood RIGHT?  Or like "Eh, your video is really damn fail, I don't know why you even try". That's damn bloody mean man, and sometimes us guys, we don't mean it as an insult, but rather, a joke. But is a joke at the expense of another person's self respect really necessary? Do we only feel better when we put someone else down?

I'm not trying to judge anyone else, because I myself, am guilty of that. I just think it's not right to crack a joke among the group and at the same time, hurt someone's self esteem. So, the bottom line is, what can be done about this social problem in today's world?
YOU SIAO AH YOU THINK I KNOW EVERYTHING AH? GO PLUCK GRASS AND THEN FIND THE COW TO FEED LA!

Mooo!

I just wish for everyone to be happy, sunny days (but cooler weather) and have goodilicious picnics all the time. So even when the storm comes, we'll just keep on dancing in the rain, and smile, cause everything will all be better soon. :)

Money Money Money, how I love you Honey

Recently I read a blog post which was unusually interesting. It was by a girl called Rachel, and she talked about her relationship with her boyfriend, and how she was so proud of him for being mature when it came to managing his money. In a nutshell, her boyfriend made a gift for her birthday, instead of buying one. And accompanying the gift, he wrote her a note explaining that he was sorry he couldn't buy her a gift because he simply couldn't afford it. The next year, he then bought her a birthday gift with his own money, after he got a stable job.

Now this post is exceptionally interesting for a couple of reasons. The first being the content, I really don't want to come across as being an asshole but the truth be told, I've seen very few blogs written by females that contain actual meaningful content. In my humble opinion (I may be wrong) the majority of the blogs contain pictures and then musing of everyday life or the occasional comment regarding current events. I'm not saying this is wrong, and I fully understand why they do this. Who doesn't prefer to look at pictures of pretty girls rather than stare at paragraphs of overly "Chim" English wrtten by some pretentious douche???

Moving on, I just felt that it was really nice of her to be so understanding and more than that, appreciative of a man who is trying to live by his set of principles. His stance on wanting not to spend more than what he could afford really resonates with me. I'm not a rich guy, and it's true, I cannot afford what some other guys can, simple as that. However, I also don't believe in taking money from my parents. Ever since I enlisted in the army, from when I got my first pay cheque in BMT I decided that I wanted to be 100 % financially independent. Yes, it was tough living on the meagre salary of $450/month, but I decided it was time to grow up. Sure, I don't have to pay rent, and sometimes when I go out with my family they pay for my lunches, hey I'm not perfect (and can't afford to be, $$$ no enough). But I know some guys who take pocket money from their parents even when they are older than I am. I guess it's just a difference in personal choices and obviously I won't have the same spending power as them.

Anyway this post has somehow gotten a little egoistic and self indulgent, but I really just want to commend this fine young lady and say, "Good on you lassie!" I'm glad some things are more important to her than money or gifts. These ladies aren't easy to find nowadays, and thank goodness I've got a really good sexy chick as well!

I eat, it shows, and then I get rid of it.

"My mom made two dishes: Take it or Leave it." -- Stephen Wright

I really enjoy cooking, I wash the dishes to unwind, and well, I exercise because I have to. - Story of my life.

Well yeah, I have other interests too, like swimming (okay fine, not exactly, my version is more like floating around the pool) playing/watching football/Aussie rules, the list goes on and on and on.

The bottom line is, everyone has a hobby, be it sewing, playing with marbles, cleaning, whatever. BUT not every hobby is a turn on. And I dare say, as a perfectly normal heterosexual young male, cooking is by far, the sexiest hobby a man can have.

I started enjoying cooking, strangely enough, in my secondary school days. But those days, it was all about the instant gratification, instant pleasure, instant, MI GORENG (INDOMIE STYLE!) I'm sorry Maggi, but truth be told, Indomie kicks your ass. Then I levelled up, and started with chicken nuggets. FINALLY I REACHED THE PEAK OF INSTANT/ FROZEN COOKING! FROZEN PIES. ahhgasminmymouth.

So, okay fine, that was kindergarten cooking, I finally moved on to proper cooking when I started fooling around in the kitchen with my girlfriend. We started out with wraps, and she had me on the chopping board detail, basically just slicing tomatoes, lettuces, that kinda thing. I quickly got bored and started playing around with spices while frying the chicken and it just was SO MUCH FUNN!!! We quickly moved on to other fun food, like pizza, prata, pies, naan with butter chicken, pork schnitzel and all kinds of stuff.

So anyway, I thought it'd be nice to share a simple recipe that we put together earlier today for lunch. It's essentially a pork, with apple slices and asparagus sandwich. We put it together in less than half an hour so it's a really quick and mostly effortless meal. Here's the end product to get you interested!

We got some minced pork, apples, asparagus and a small loaf of bread (Mediterranean Panini) from the supermarket.

Yup so you just need to cube some onions and apples, stuff them into the pork, season it with a tinge of salt, and shape them until you get these sort of pork patties.

Then you just fry them up! But we tried out this technique we saw on tv, which is to just simply put a lid on top of the pork, then after it's about to be ready, you just add a slice of cheese on top andddd VOLAAA!

Hope you enjoy! TGIF

Birthday Bashing up the Blues

I turned 22! but it was quite a sucky feeling cause I'm finally free from the army and yet, i had to celebrate my birthday hairless.. So yeah it was a abit of a bummer that way. But as I reflect on my life, I've noticed the changes in me, through my previous birthdays.

Like when I was in secondary school, it would be all about what gift I wanted to get from my parents, my friends yada yada yada. Then in my poly days it would be about which cool club I wanted to open a table at, that sorta thing.. Which was fun, who doesn't love getting high with your favourite party people?

But nowadays, I guess I just enjoy chilling more. I suppose this is what getting old does to people, it takes all the fun out of you. Now, even I find myself boring, I'm surprised I even still have friends. And yet, with another year passing by, somehow I find myself appreciating life just that bit more. Argh I'm boring enough as it is, no need to get all philosophical now.. ANYWAY THIS WAS HOW I SPENT MY BIRTHDAY. I GOT THIS BADASS YACHT AND SAILED OVER TO SOME MYSTERIOUS ISLAND WITH HOT CHICKS AND GOT REALLY HIGH AND ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER.

pfttt I wish. Maybe next year. AND MOVING ON, so here's how my 22nd really went down. Had a real nice dinner with my friends from my secondary school days. Went to a really relaxing joint,  Da paolo pizza bar down by chip bee gardens (except for the screaming kid in the next table). Really good food paired with fantabulous company. Me and the other birthday girl! (19 AUGUST FTW!!!
Here's a lil sneak at what we had. (tobehonest, the white based pizzas are way better than the red)

So then the next day popped by the set to visit the crew as they were filming the robinson road scene. Really mega epic, and it looks promising as well. Hope it turns out nice on screen!

Then had dinner with the lady boss, had BRITISH PUB GRUB at vivo at this place called The Queen & Mangosteen @Vivo. With a name like that, how can you not try it? And it was really good, hahaa I've always wanted to try authentic british food cause of dear Jamie Oliver. I watch his shows all the time and he is really inspiring! I've been wanting to try fried rabbit for the longest time but haven't been able to find it in Singapore yet! Argh! seems like the only way is to catch or borrow a rabbit and do a bit of experimentation.

Finally ended off with a family lunch at Marina Mandarin. Tell me about the amount of food I've been eating the past couple of days. And honestly, I've lost so much weight since I started filming, almost everyday eating Bee Hoon breakfast (unless I manage to steal some prata from the muslims), Chai Peng lunch, then again Chai peng for dinner when I come back home. I DESERVE TO EAT OK! I CALL THIS WEIGHT TRAINING!

Heh and there's a super cute picture of my dad so I just want to show him off.

BYEBYE! JTWE OUT
